A BRIEF HISTORY

In 1961, the Tianjin Watch Factory gained fame in China for crafting the first military watch. They were then entrusted with a significant task – creating the inaugural Chinese aviation watch for the Chinese Liberation Army Air Force, known as Project "d304."

To accomplish this, they journeyed to Switzerland, securing patents and machinery Swiss chronograph manufacturer Venus for the Venus 175 column wheel chronograph.

After years of experimentation, production of the official Chinese Air Force watch commenced in 1962 and concluded in 1963, inspiring its name. Today's Seagull 1963 Blue Panda stands as a modern vintage tribute to this historically vital timepiece once worn by Chinese Air Force pilots.

Le Seagull 1963 Moonphase Cream Dial 40mm est une montre qui rend hommage à l’histoire prestigieuse de l’horlogerie chinoise. En 1961, l’usine Tianjin Watch a créé la première montre militaire de Chine, avant de se voir confier un projet encore plus ambitieux : la création de la première montre d’aviation chinoise pour l’Armée de l’Air de la Libération du Peuple, connue sous le nom de Projet “d304”.

Pour accomplir cela, les ingénieurs chinois ont voyagé en Suisse pour obtenir des brevets et des équipements, notamment pour le chronographe Venus 175. Après plusieurs années d’expérimentations, la production de la montre officielle de l’Armée de l’Air chinoise a été lancée en 1962 et s’est terminée en 1963. Cette montre historique est devenue un symbole de l’aviation chinoise.

The vintage design looks super slick and it's clear that a lot of care and attention to detail went into the creation of this timepiece. I just wanted to own a piece of history and with this funky version of the seagull, I felt like it was the perfect combi for me of a watch that's based on the historic 1963 but with a new fun twist. The stainless steel case feels sturdy and well-built, and the mechanical movement is both reliable and accurate after a few months of using it so would so I'm happy with this
