The deep history behind the famous Seagull movements

In January 1955, the government of the Republic of China ordered 4 watch experts to create a watch used by the nation. In China this would be mainly the Liberation Army back in the day. This watch is now known as the Seagull 1963 (due to its production from 1955 to 1963) and was previously known as project d304. Their first step was to purchase a Swiss Venus patent naming 175. To achieve and manufacture the top-notch quality they wanted to reach, they ordered special manufacturing machinery to be able to produce the watch entirely in China.

The Tianjin Seagull Watch Group (天津海鸥) has produced a variety of watches over the years.

From 1955 to 1958 the company produced a brand called WuXing, from 1958 to 1966 the brand WuYi was launched, from 1966 to 1974 Dong Feng and from 1974 to current times their watch brand is being called ‘Seagull’.

 

In 1990, the Chinese government granted special watch movements and watch manufacturers the status of national enterprises. This had and still has a big meaning. Growing from there on out they are now one of the biggest companies in China. Specializing in the unique Seagull ST901 automatic movement, growing as they got financial support from the central government to grow even bigger, faster and bigger in a short period of time.

Bringing so called glory to the state of China.

In 2000, the Seagull Tianjin Watch Group went public and was encouraged to keep expanding by the Chinese government.

The Seagull 1963 watch is an in-house watch brand that uses the Seagull ST901 movement. Seagull watch movements are made in many different styles and styles. All of which are visible in the shop. Options range from the automatic self-winding movements, tourbillon and chronograph movements. All of them are known for their high quality while still being affordable.

The watch factory is also mastering more complex watch movements with features such as perpetual calendars, minute repeater, a moonphase, visible power reserve and retrograde dates.
