My name is Janos and I’m from Sweden. I was born and raised in Hungary during communism. In the Soviet era, for my generation, the red star or five pointed star represented oppression and was associated with bad memories. It was hated by almost everyone.
This red star is also the logo of the Seagull 1963 watches. Fortunately, those days are over and now I have totally changed my view of the old times back home in Hungary. Like it or not it was a part of our life.
You just can’t change history, right? As a watch nerd, I’ve joined many watch groups on Facebook and I have seen the Seagull 1963 Chronograph in one post from a fellow member for the first time. I knew immediately that I wanted one. First of all, it was the look of the watch I really liked.
The champagne-colored dial, those mesmerizing blue hands.The red second hand and off course the already mentioned famous red star on the dial. Not just these things though. It has also a great history behind and that fascinates me a lot.
After reading reviews and seeing clips on Youtube about this beauty I decided to buy one. Although I own several watches this watch pretty quickly has become my favorite in my collection.
Hard to find a nice watch like this especially at this price point. Great value for the money for sure. I wish I could own the original from the sixties but I’m obviously very pleased with this modern reissue.
I’ve chosen the larger version with sapphire crystal and it was a good choice since I have a bigger wrist. The see-through case back is allowed you to admire the beautiful ST1901 movement. I love my Seagull1963 very much. I Love that reliable movement, which really is a powerhouse. Also, I can use different type of straps on my seagull 1963. Looks good on leather or nato strap. Basically looks great on everything.
I highly recommend this awesome piece for everyone who likes horology and history.
